If you missed the June 9th premiere, there’s still time to experience one of Canada’s most remarkable aviation stories.
As part of our ongoing celebration of 90 years of the Douglas DC-3, visitors can now watch Odyssey ’86, a 30-minute documentary that tells the incredible true story of Barry Lapointe and the Spirit of Vancouver’s around-the-world flight celebrating Expo 86.
The film brings to life an extraordinary journey that saw the historic DC-3 travel through 28 countries, 55 cities and more than 280 hours of flight, becoming a flying ambassador for Canada while showcasing the reliability and enduring legacy of one of aviation’s most iconic aircraft.
Produced in partnership with award-winning filmmaker Ryan Tebbutt of Edge Digital Media, the documentary features firsthand stories from the original Odyssey crew, rare archival footage, and reflections on an aviation adventure that continues to inspire nearly four decades later.
The documentary is now showing exclusively at the KF Centre for Excellence and is included with admission by donation. Screenings begin at 10:00 AM and play every half hour throughout the day, making it easy to include during your visit.
After the film, explore the new Odyssey ’86 exhibit in the North Hangar beside the DC-3 aircraft, where you’ll discover the history of the aircraft, learn more about the global expedition, and stand beside the very DC-3 that completed the unforgettable journey before returning home to the KF Centre for Excellence.
Whether you followed the adventure in 1986 or are discovering it for the first time, Odyssey ’86 is a celebration of Canadian innovation, perseverance, and aviation history.
We invite you to experience this inspiring story and discover why the Douglas DC-3 continues to capture imaginations 90 years after its first flight.
The KF Centre for Excellence extends its sincere thanks to our friends at Kelowna Fast Signs for their outstanding craftsmanship and support in bringing the Odyssey ’86 exhibit to life. Their expertise helped transform this remarkable story into an engaging experience for visitors to enjoy for years to come.
