In May 2025, the KF Centre for Excellence proudly welcomed Her Honour, The Honourable Wendy Cocchia, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, for a meaningful visit that celebrated leadership, innovation, and aviation heritage.
As the 31st Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, Her Honour brings a distinguished legacy of community service, philanthropy, and advocacy for neurodiverse individuals. Her visit offered an opportunity to reflect on the Centre’s mission and the powerful role of education and storytelling in connecting the past with the future.
A Moment of Honour: Challenge Coin Presentation
One of the most memorable highlights was the presentation of the King Charles III Coronation Challenge Coin—a symbol of excellence, service, and leadership. Retired Captain Bob Garry, Royal Canadian Air Force, received a King Charles III Coronation Challenge Coin during a special ceremony. The presentation was made in recognition of Captain Garry’s lifelong service and contributions to aviation in Canada.
The King Charles III Coronation Challenge Coin is a commemorative token issued to mark the coronation of King Charles III on May 6, 2023. In Canada, such coins are often presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to the nation, symbolizing respect and gratitude for their service.
Captain Garry’s receipt of this coin places him among a distinguished group of Canadians honored for their dedication and impact, particularly in the field of aviation.
A Guided Tour Through History and Innovation
During the tour, Her Honour explored the Centre’s aviation exhibits and aircraft collection, engaging with staff, volunteers, and the stories that fuel the Centre’s mission. Her interest in youth programming and hands-on learning underscored her deep commitment to public service and lifelong learning.
A Lasting Visit, A Shared Mission
Her Honour’s visit was a proud moment for the KF Centre for Excellence and a reminder of the impact that collaborative leadership can have in inspiring future generations. We remain honoured to have hosted such an esteemed leader and to continue our work in preserving and sharing Canada’s aviation story.
