Celebrate 90 years of one of the most iconic aircraft in aviation history at a special premiere event hosted by the KF Centre for Excellence. Odyssey 86 – 90 Years of the DC-3 brings together aviation enthusiasts, community members, and history lovers for the premiere of a new short documentary film featuring Barry Lapointe and original crew members from the legendary 1986 around-the-world Odyssey flight.

The evening celebrates both the 90th anniversary of the Douglas DC-3 and the extraordinary Odyssey mission created to promote Expo 86 around the globe. In June 1986, the Odyssey DC-3 departed Canada on an ambitious international journey celebrating Expo 86’s theme: Transportation and Communication: World in Motion – World in Touch. Travelling through 28 countries and dozens of cities worldwide, the aircraft became a flying symbol of connection, innovation, and adventure during one of Canada’s most memorable international celebrations.

Nearly 40 years later, the aircraft now serves as a living tribute at the KF Centre for Excellence – preserving the stories, people, and pioneering spirit behind the mission for future generations.

About the Film

Produced in partnership with award-winning director Ryan Tebbutt of Edge Digital Media, the approximately 30-minute documentary shares firsthand stories from the crew behind the Odyssey ’86 mission while exploring the lasting legacy of the DC-3 aircraft – from wartime operations and commercial aviation to one of Canada’s great aviation adventures.

Featuring interviews, archival storytelling, and reflections from those who lived the journey, the film offers audiences a rare opportunity to hear the story directly from the people who experienced it.
