Full documentary celebrating 90 years of the DC-3 and 40 years since the Odyssey 86 journey is now available to watch online.
Forty years ago, a crew of Canadian aviators climbed aboard a DC-3 and set out on an extraordinary journey around the world.
Their aircraft was the Odyssey. Their adventure would become part of its story forever.
In 1986, KF Aerospace founder Barry Lapointe and the Odyssey 86 crew embarked on the journey to celebrate two milestones: the 50th anniversary of the Douglas DC-3 and Expo 86 in Vancouver.
Over two months, the Odyssey visited 55 cities and accumulated more than 280 hours of flying time. By the time the crew returned home, the aircraft was covered in a colourful mosaic of stickers from ports of call around the world — a visual record of the places, people and experiences that shaped their journey.
Four decades later, that story has been brought to the screen.
Preserving the Story of Odyssey 86
With 2026 marking both the 90th anniversary of the DC-3 and 40 years since the Odyssey 86 journey, the KF Centre for Excellence partnered with Edge Digital Media to capture the memories of the people who were there.
Odyssey 86: 90 Years of the DC-3 brings together members of the original crew to revisit the adventure in their own words, sharing the stories and memories behind an extraordinary chapter in Canadian aviation history.
The 30-minute documentary premiered at the KF Centre in June, bringing together more than 230 guests, including members of the Odyssey 86 crew, family, friends and members of the aviation community.
Following the premiere, the documentary played at the KF Centre throughout the summer, giving visitors an opportunity to experience the story alongside the aircraft itself.

Today, the Odyssey DC-3 remains part of the aircraft collection at the KF Centre for Excellence in Kelowna, carrying with it not only decades of aviation history, but the memories of an adventure that began 40 years ago.
