DESCRIPTION:Film Premiere & New DC-3 Exhibit Launch\nCelebrate 90 years of one of the most iconic aircraft in aviation history at a special premiere event hosted by the KF Centre for Excellence. Odyssey 86 – 90 Years of the DC-3 brings together aviation enthusiasts\, community members\, and history lovers for the premiere of a new short documentary film featuring Barry Lapointe and original crew members from the legendary 1986 around-the-world Odyssey flight. \nThe evening celebrates both the 90th anniversary of the Douglas DC-3 and the extraordinary Odyssey mission created to promote Expo 86 around the globe. In June 1986\, the Odyssey DC-3 departed Canada on an ambitious international journey celebrating Expo 86’s theme: Transportation and Communication: World in Motion – World in Touch. Travelling through 28 countries and dozens of cities worldwide\, the aircraft became a flying symbol of connection\, innovation\, and adventure during one of Canada’s most memorable international celebrations. \nNearly 40 years later\, the aircraft now serves as a living tribute at the KF Centre for Excellence – preserving the stories\, people\, and pioneering spirit behind the mission for future generations. \n \nAbout the Film\nProduced in partnership with award-winning director Ryan Tebbutt of Edge Digital Media\, the approximately 30-minute documentary shares firsthand stories from the crew behind the Odyssey ’86 mission while exploring the lasting legacy of the DC-3 aircraft – from wartime operations and commercial aviation to one of Canada’s great aviation adventures. \nFeaturing interviews\, archival storytelling\, and reflections from those who lived the journey\, the film offers audiences a rare opportunity to hear the story directly from the people who experienced it. \nReserve Your Seat Odyssey 86 – 90 Years of the DC-3 Premiere\nTickets are $38 / person\, which includes one complimentary beverage\, charcuterie grazing boards from TJ’s Grazing\, and light refreshments to enjoy during the evening. SUMMARY:CAHS National Convention & Aviation Cultures Conference Coming to Kelowna in 2026
DESCRIPTION:We’re thrilled to share that the KF Centre for Excellence will host the Canadian Aviation Historical Society (CAHS) National Convention in partnership with the Aviation Cultures Mk.VIII Conference\, taking place June 17–20\, 2026\, both in Kelowna\, BC and online. \nThis will be the first-ever joint event between the long-standing CAHS Convention and the global\, storytelling-focused Aviation Cultures series—bringing together two respected platforms for aviation history\, dialogue\, and community. Whether attending in person or online\, participants can look forward to a rich mix of presentations\, conversations\, and perspectives. \nWhat to Expect\nAmong other themes\, this international conference will explore the shared history and differences between Canadian and Australian aviation—highlighting connections\, contrasts\, and unique stories from each country’s aviation legacy. The event will also feature signature CAHS Convention sessions and the broader creative and scholarly approach of Aviation Cultures. \nA call for papers and conference themes will be announced later this year\, so stay tuned. \nA Collaborative Effort\nThe 2026 event is being co-organized by Edward Soye (Canada) and James Kightly (Australia)\, with support from both CAHS and Aviation Cultures.
